Dan and I decided to start a tradition (and by that I mean that I said, "Hey! Let's make this a tradition for our kids!" and Dan said ok, because he knew I'd be the one making the Christmas purchases anyway) of getting Lucas a new Christmas ornament every year and giving it to him on Christmas Eve (along with a new pair of pajamas, which has nothing to do with this post.) My plan is that by the time he's ready for a place of his own, he'll have a good start on decorating his first Christmas tree. Last year I got him about 14 "Baby's First Christmas" ornaments, but I thought that for every year after that, it would be cool to buy an ornament that represented something he accomplished or really liked that year. And this year, the boy loves cats. LOVES them. So I started looking on Etsy for cute cat Christmas ornaments, and I found Heart of Clay Girl, Christy.
The ornaments she makes are ridiculously adorable. And trust me, they're even cuter in person than in the pictures!
She sent me a gray tabby cat for Lucas...
...and a black and white cat for one of you lucky folks to win!
Each of her ornaments is one-of-a-kind and handcrafted from polymer clay. While they're a great gift for kids, they're not toys (hence the title of the post), and they can break if they're dropped or handled really roughly. So only give them to kids who can be careful (or, you know, do like me and tell your toddler "this is for you!" and then hang it on the tree and let him play with the gift wrap and the box.) These are fantastic stocking stuffers, gift toppers, or just plain gifts. And although this post is about gifts for kids, these are great for adult animal-lovers, too.
Your kid's not into cats? No problem. She sells ornaments of all different breeds of dogs in her shop along with a bunch of other animals. (I am seriously considering trying to get Lucas really fascinated with raccoons next year so I have an excuse to buy one of her raccoon ornaments.) She even does custom orders if you want a cat or dog in the color/breed to match your pet.
The last day to order an ornament in time for Christmas is December 20 (December 1 if you live outside of the U.S.), so don't wait! Order yours now!
And... enter now to win the adorable black and white cat pictured above! (And don't forget to check out my other current giveaways and come back for the giveaways happening for the next five days!)
If you want to vote for me, I will allow it. You're welcome.
